Hello! Thanks for visiting. In this blog, we will document our journey of renovating our master bedroom walk-in closet. The closet is quite large, 7' wide by 29' deep and 8' tall, but is completely filled to the rim with clothing and other miscellaneous items.
We explored and priced out various options from Home Depot, Container Store, California Closet, and others but settled on the IKEA PAX system. It seemed to offer the best value and looked just as good as the others. There were also many YouTube videos showing awesome hacks and customization which convinced us to go with it. Our plan is to make it look high-end and built-in.
Since we were not very familiar with the IKEA PAX system and didn't really know what sort of internal organizers we needed, we decided to break up the order and the project into two phases. First, we will tackle the left side, which is mainly my wife's section.
We went online to the IKEA PAX Planner website and started designing. Here is the link https://www.ikea.com/us/en/planner/pax-planner/. The site was very easy to use and in the end produced a complete shopping list. It look a few days to finalize the design and we placed the order online.
This is the design we came up with for the left side of the room.
Here is the overall game plan:

Here is the overall game plan:
- Remove everything from left half of the room
- Take down the wire-frame shelves
- Remove baseboard
- Install PAX frames
- Install internal organizers
- Put back clothing
- Repeat all of the above for the right side
- Add finish trim, still debating on the exact design
- Add lighting
